Derrick Brown


Derrick currently serves as the Chief Innovation Officer for Evergreen Public Schools (EPS) in Vancouver, WA.  EPS educates nearly 27,000 students in 37 schools and employs approximately 3,300 staff. Brown directs activities for a staff of approximately 55 employees and provides strategic leadership for Digital Learning/Education Technology, I.T. Procurement, Infrastructure & Operations, Enterprise Application Services and Print Shop.  Derrick has more than 25 years’ experience in various roles including CIO/CTO of Pulaski County Special School District, Sr. Project Manager for Portland Public Schools, healthcare, telecom and other capacities in state and federal government agencies.  Derrick earned a B.A. in English Literature from Virginia Commonwealth University and his M.B.A. from Keller Graduate School of Management.  

EPS is making strides to transform to a digital instructional ecosystem focusing on personalization and ensuring schools, students, and staff have equitable access – including 1:1 learning devices and adopted digital curriculum & content. With greater access to technology also comes the shared responsibility of working together to help students understand how the digital world works.
